At age 13, she joined a local theatre group. It was there that she was cast in a singing role. The newspaper reviews raved about her voice as one with a Judy Garland quality. From that moment on, she knew she wanted to sing.
At 19, Amber married and followed her dreams to Music City. It was in Nashville where Amber met Randy Owen, the lead singer of Alabama, who helped develop her as a solo artist. Her project was being developed for RCA Records and in early 1990 was ready to be pitched.
At the same time, Amber became pregnant with twins after 5 years of unsuccessful pregnancy attempts. The only thing Amber wanted more than her own exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame was to be a mom. Soon after the birth of their daughter Taylor Ann and son Chance, Taylor Ann contracted spinal meningitis leaving her severely handicap. This would prove to be the quantum experience that would change Amber’s life forever.
At that point a choice had to be made. A country star or a mom of a special needs child. For Amber, there was no deliberation necessary. She and her husband packed the U-haul and headed to Salt Lake City to be close to family and heal.
Leaving a highly creative environment left Amber with energy that needed to be spent. Her home became her canvas and that is when she picked up her first power tool. 15 years, 2 more children, and a million home projects later, Amber put her skills to work. Without a penny to her name, she needed a job that paid well and was flexible enough to be available for her children, especially Taylor Ann.
Enter the Fix-it Chic. Amber’s vision for fly-by-the-seat-of-her pants problem solving skills quickly caught the attention of homemakers throughout her community.
Amber embraces the belief that every woman is a fix-it chic who just needs a little encouragement. Life is not about getting what you want. It’s wanting what you’ve got, taking care of it, and loving it.
