Fire Safety - Cellulose vs Fiberglass Insulation (video)

January 21st, 2008 by Mr. Homes

The following video compares the fire resistance of cellulose vs. fiberglass insulation.  The experiment was conducted by building three small housing structures.  One insulated with cellulose insulation, one with fiberglass insulation, and one with no insulation.  The Fire department ignited all three.

The results may surprise you…

One Response to “Fire Safety - Cellulose vs Fiberglass Insulation (video)”

  1. Anne Mehr Says:

I am having cellulose blown into my attic crawlspace - about 600 sq ft. - and Retrofoam put into the walls of the house. The house was built in 1925. There already exists fiberglass insulation in the rafters - the white little torn up pieces kind. Is there ANY reason (health - particles contributing to allergies? fire and safety?, etc.) to have that removed or is it completely safe to blow right over that existing fiberglass?

I look forward to hearing from you,
    Thank you,

    Anne Mehr
