A HIGH CALIBER HOME! -Salt Lake Parade of Homes Review
August 3rd, 2007 by Carl The CriticOne of the things I like the best about the Salt Lake Home Builders Parade of Homes…is that I finally get to tour the models of builders I’ve been meaning to see. For a long time! Like Caliber Homes!
I’m well aware of the fact Caliber has been building beautiful homes for a long time. But for some reason, I’ve never had the privilege of walking through one of Caliber’s models. The Parade of Homes took care of that.
After winning “Best of Show” during the 2006 Parade, Caliber had the challenge of meeting, or beating expectations. Since I didn’t know what to expect, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality built into The Sherfy, Caliber’s Parade Home in West Jordan at Naylor Farm Estates…a great community in a terrific Westside location!
Loved the floor plan in this rambler. It flows well…very open and airy. The family room blends with a beautiful, well appointed kitchen (which I’d love to have). The knotty alder doors and the 5 inch moldings throughout the home really stand out and speak to the quality of this home, and this builder.
Down stairs, Caliber keeps things flowing nicely from the game room (and it’s Checker board ceiling) into the state of the art home theater area. Tons of room in the finished basement, that also included two big bedrooms, a full bath and a very nice crafts room. By the way, the ceilings in the basement are 9 foot high so you don’t feel confined or cramped.
The granite and tile throughout the Sherfy made me feel I was in a much more expensive home but the coolest thing about this model might be the iPod sound system that allows you to hear music in every room of this well thought out floor plan.
Again, if you can’t get to all of the homes in this year’s Parade…I think you have to put Caliber on your short list. That’s just my opinion…let me know what YOU think!

Carl are you ‘well aware’ that Caliber’s owners are crooks?

Caliber Homes (Caliber Holdings Company) owned by Michael Lichtie is a company you should stay far away from. To see the complaints in Arizona look up the registrar of contractors web page azroc.gov and search caliber holdings under licensed contractors. this will show you the number of complaints against them. you can also search the maricopa county recorder web page for Arizona to see all the liens and lawsuits against Caliber. also check the Utah county recorder to find all the liens and lawsuits for Utah. I am sure you can find more law suits for Clark county Nevada. Sorry Michael Lichtie, but the public needs to know about your business practices.

I agree with Joe Blow 1 not only are they crooks, but they also have not one once of dignity left. I am not so sure they had any to begin with. They come into the state of Arizona to build and what they did is left family’s in homes that where never constructed properly and they don’t really seem to care. Not only have they taken advantage of home buyers, but they can’t even pay there sub-contractors that did the work. They can’t even by far stand up to there name Higher Caliber Homes that is one of the biggest jokes I have every heard. So buyers please beware and before you decide to even purchase one of there homes. Please check there license number with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and also view all there civil complaints against them. You will find that what we are stating is the truth.

Hey, if you guys are willing to come out and say bad things about a company why don’t you use your real names? You can talk all the $?@# you want but in my mind you are all cowards! Caliber builds beautiful homes, which are high quality. Mike Lichtie and Mike Holmes are genuine and are great guys…..who happen to do a lot for people!!! If you have something to say…say it, but don’t be cowards about. Besides you are probably old employees that were fired! Get over it. Grow up, do a better job at your new job and stop trying to ruin these men’s reputations.

Love Caliber, I am interested in purchasing a Caliber home. You state that they are beautiful homes. I agree, but I have heard from several people in the community and realtors that there are some serious problems with these homes. Basements flooding, upper levels sagging, etc. Can you attest to any of these problems? I am, in no way, accusing Caliber of anything. I am just concerned as to what I have heard. I would love to be assured that these are great homes, because they are certainly very nice looking homes with very nice size lots. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Look, Caliber Holdings LLC in AZ had its fair share of problems. No one is denying that. You can certainly see the public records that are available with the state and judge for yourself. I have been President of Caliber Homes in UT and Caliber Holdings LLC in AZ for the last few years. A lot of people are mad because a lot of people got hurt by the market shift which caught most, if not all of us off guard. Just remember there are two sides to every story. While a lot, not a few, a lot of sub contractors did not get paid by us. Thus severely effecting the quality of work we were doing. We were put in the spot by forces out of our control. I will not bore you with the details, but I will tell you this; We have left AZ. We are tightening up our operations and focusing on our UT projects. AZ is now behind us and we do not want the disaster that happened there to be repeated here in UT. We have built some great homes here, and we look forward to building more great homes here. I have been asked point blank if “Carl the Critic” and “Loves Caliber” are employees of Caliber Homes. The answer is yes they are. I don’t believe that should change the fact that they are employees because they see the good we are doing. They believe in what we have done. I am so confident that we will not see the same mistakes made, I will offer up my business email for anyone to contact me directly in the event they have questions or concerns; mholmes@highercaliber.com
We apologize to anyone who was hurt by the mistakes we made or the damage that was caused when we attempted to branch out into the AZ market. Hine sight is 20/20, if we could do it all over again we never would have left UT.
Michael T. Holmes
